In use during recent weeks by crowds of skateboarders and bikers who were too eager to wait, the Minnow Lake Skate Park is now officially open to the public.
The construction of the 10,000 square-foot skate park, located in front of the Carmichael Arena at 1298 Bancroft Dr., began in November 2005.
"It is very exciting to see this vision take shape,” said Greater Sudbury Mayor David Courtemanche. "The Minnow Lake Skate Park is situated conveniently on a Greater Sudbury Transit route, and has a beautiful view of the lake – a great location for our youth to gather."

Weird ... they said the start of the skatepark construction was November 2005. I wonder if they dug and let it sit through the winter and poured the concrete in spring.
Working through winter raises the cost of construction.
well our city has it right to keep it cheap, not to build it those bastards! haha
The longer they wait to build it the more it will cost to build the exact same design .... due to the increase in material and energy costs etc...
Thats awesome :) im going there in a few days so im gonna skate the hell out of it! thanx for all the info on it Trav
They did let it sit through winter. They dug most of the dirt out and poured the concrete in for the spring.
I've noticed that there are wooden ramps from the old ryan heigts skate park that are literally just rotting away in a field near moonlight beach. Seeing as there is no skatepark near the Downtown/Donovan area it would be great to maybe have some of those ramps transported to an appropriate place in the donovan for the locals to ride.
